Your license term has ended. That's why the badge is back.
Nothing has broken. The editor, spellcheck and paste are all still working exactly as they were; the key in your build has simply passed its end date, so Sqwig has returned to the free tier.
Staying on the free tier? It covers development, evaluation and non-commercial use. Set license: "free" and the "· unlicensed" marker goes away. A commercial application in production needs a current key. The terms below are the ones that apply.
Your key is valid. It just isn't issued for this domain.
Nothing has broken, and nothing is wrong with your license. Keys are checked against the domain they were issued for, entirely on your users' devices, which is how per-application pricing works without Sqwig ever seeing your traffic. This page is running on a hostname that isn't on your key.
Re-issues are free for licensed customers: reply to your key email with the domain, and we'll send a new key. If you need staging and preview covered too, say so and we'll issue a wildcard.
The Sqwig Free License
The free tier's terms, in plain language. No cost, no signup, nothing collected; accepted with one line of configuration. Short enough to actually read.
Setting this option constitutes acceptance of this license. That's the whole ceremony: no account, no email, no click-through, no network call. Until you set it, the editor still works fully: the footer badge simply reads "Powered by Sqwig · unlicensed," and any use of the software is governed by this license regardless.
What you get
A non-exclusive, non-transferable license to integrate the Sqwig component (@sqwig/core and its wrappers) into one application, free of charge, for development, evaluation, and non-commercial production use. Production use in a commercial application (one operated by or for a business, or that charges its users) requires a paid plan. The free tier is the full editor (formatting toolbar, live spellcheck, clean paste, mobile), and development and evaluation are free for everyone, for as long as you need. Nothing is time-limited or metered.
How acceptance works
Passing license: "free" in the component's configuration constitutes acceptance of this license by you and the organization you act for. Any use of the software without a valid purchased key is also governed by this license, whether or not the option is set. Installing or upgrading to a release constitutes acceptance of the license version that release ships with; each package carries its license text and version in LICENSE.txt.
The badge stays visible
The free tier displays a small "Powered by Sqwig" badge in the editor footer (with an "· unlicensed" marker until acceptance). Displaying the badge as rendered by the software is an express condition of the license granted in Free License 01. Any use of the software without a purchased key where the badge is removed, obscured, or modified revokes that license grant and constitutes direct copyright infringement. We will never enforce this in code (the editor keeps working no matter what), but the obligation stands. Paid tiers remove the badge as an entitlement of the purchased key.
As is, no warranty
The free tier is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind: express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. You are responsible for deciding whether it fits your application and for the application you build with it.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Learn Wise Solutions LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from free-tier use. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions; where a statutory right cannot be excluded, it isn't.
You stand behind your application
You agree to defend and indemnify Learn Wise Solutions LLC against third-party claims arising from your application, your content, or your use of the software, including what your users type into it and what your application does with the output. Sqwig is a component in your product; the product, and its risks, are yours.
Indemnification is conditioned on Learn Wise Solutions LLC providing prompt written notice of any claim, sole control over the defense and settlement, and reasonable cooperation. No settlement that imposes any liability or obligation on Learn Wise Solutions LLC, or that admits fault on its behalf, may be entered into without its prior written consent.
When a paid license lapses
A purchased key covers the term you bought. After that it stops removing the badge and stops enabling the features we designate as paid. For a commercial application in production, continued use requires renewal; development, evaluation, and non-commercial use continue under this Free License via license: "free". The editor shows the unlicensed badge until you choose.
Nothing breaks. A lapsed key is not a time bomb: the component keeps working on every build you have deployed, and your content is untouched. What changes is entitlement: the badge returns, and the features we designate as paid revert to their Free-tier behaviour until you renew. Sqwig operates no license server, so there is nothing that could switch your software off, and we would not build one.
What we never do
Accepting this license sends us nothing. No signup, no telemetry, no license server, no phone-home: the component makes zero network calls to Sqwig, on every tier. Verification of any license value happens entirely inside your page. This is the product's founding promise and it is not a free-tier limitation; it's the design.

This license is versioned. Revisions apply prospectively only: the version in effect when you accept (or that ships with the release you install) governs your use; changes never apply retroactively. This page and the Terms of Service together govern free-tier use; capitalized terms and governing-law provisions follow the Terms.
